-Phomopsis is a fungal disease that presents as oblong patterns of reddish-brown to tan lesions. Often centered on or encompassing a portion of the areole and has a light tan border surrounding the lesion. The black pycnidia fruiting bodies are scattered uniformly within. Phomopsis sporulation is favored in cool, wet weather; though grows aggressively at 84 deg F.

Can be an aggressive pathogen and thrives in humid, warm and wet conditions. 82 degrees F is optimal for growth.
