{{clones:l:media:ls_chilo:0185769227dcd765.jpg?400}}

===== Description =====
"LS Chilo" is a Trichocereus clone recognized for its prominent spination. The "LS" designation stands for "Long Spine," distinguishing it from shorter-spined variants of the taxon. According to community observations, the spines on this clone can reach lengths of up to 4 inches and are notably thick. The epidermis and rib structure align with typical *Trichocereus chiloensis* characteristics, featuring pronounced ribs and large areoles.

===== History & Origin =====
The exact breeder and origin of the "LS Chilo" clone are not definitively documented in the discussion. However, the "LS" (Long Spine) naming convention is used to differentiate it from "SS" (Short Spine) Chilo clones. There is community speculation suggesting a potential connection to Australian Chilo clones ("RG chilos") and crosses involving "Bensons," though this remains unconfirmed.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
No specific cultivation advice for "LS Chilo" was detailed in the discussion. As a *Trichocereus chiloensis* variant, it generally thrives in well-draining soil with infrequent, deep watering during the active growing season. It requires maximum sunlight to develop its characteristic long, thick spines and is typically more cold-hardy than standard *Trichocereus pachanoi*, though it should still be protected from prolonged freezing temperatures.

===== Community Discussion & Citations =====
//Analysis of the discussion.//

The discussion serves to clarify the meaning of the "LS" prefix, confirming it refers to "Long Spine" and contrasting it with "SS" (Short Spine) variants. Members also discuss the typical physical traits of the clone and speculate on its genetic background and origin.

^ Date ^ Speaker ^ Confidence Score ^ Key Insight/Quote ^
| 2023 (approx) | Luke Cooper | 7 | "Long spine" ... "cause there is also "SS" short spined chilos as well" |
| 2023 (approx) | Steve Garver | 7 | "Chilo is naturally quite long spined 🙄 4 inches long and thick as dog hair!" |

===== Credibility Notes =====
Luke Cooper and Steve Garver were assigned confidence scores of 7 due to their clear, consistent information regarding the naming conventions ("LS" vs "SS") and specific morphological details (spine length and thickness) that align with botanical expectations for *T. chiloensis*. Steven Barford was rated lower (5) because his contribution regarding "RG chilos" and "Bensons" crosses was framed as speculation and did not receive consensus or confirmation from other participants.
