===== Description =====
Poots validus, aka T. validus cv. Fabrante, is an extremely fat, many ribbed variety of Trichocereus. Per areole, it typically has around 10 to 15 medium length spines and one central long spine, with new growth spine color of honey golden yellow with golden brown tips. The spines are particularly sharp and needle like, even among the spikier Trichocereus varieties, with Brian Poot noting they regularly puncture his Hexarmor Thornarmor gloves, unlike the other cacti at Poots. The flowers are white and rather small for Trichocereus.

===== History & Origin =====

In the late 70s, a cutting of this variety was purchased in El Sobrante, CA off the back of a truck belonging to an old man who had collected it in his travels. "Fabrante" is the name given to clones originating from this original property in El Sobrante, which is a portmanteau of the property owners last name and city. There are other "Fabrante" clones including a cuzcoensis and peruvianus. Poots planted a cutting in the front corner of their fenced area right near the parking lot shortly after, and today it has grown into a truly massive stand.
