====== roof buster ======

===== Description =====
"Roof buster" is not a single distinct cultivar, but rather a label applied to specimens of *Trichocereus cuzcoensis* (often sold under the label "peruvian torch") originating from the grower Verne. These plants typically exhibit classic *T. cuzcoensis* morphology, including prominent spination and a tall, columnar growth habit.

===== History & Origin =====
The name originated in 2021 from the grower Verne (associated with Cactus Kate). Several of his *T. cuzcoensis* plants (and potentially some of his 2006 seed-grown KK stock) grew so tall that they broke through the shade cloth of his growing structure. To manage the growth and promote the less popular cuzcoensis variety, Verne sold these tall cuts under the name "roof buster." Other more popular varieties in his collection, such as Cactus Kate bridgesii, Rimac, Wild Andes, PC, "fastest", and Juuls, were cut back more frequently and did not reach the roof.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
These plants are fast-growing and capable of reaching significant heights, requiring high-clearance growing areas or outdoor cultivation to prevent damage to shade cloths or greenhouse roofs. They should be grown in well-draining soil with standard Trichocereus watering and fertilization practices.

===== Community Discussion & Citations =====
//Analysis of the discussion reveals that "roof buster" is a descriptive sales term used by Verne for overgrown cuzcoensis specimens rather than a genetically unique clone. Community members note that the spination of these specimens is consistent with *T. cuzcoensis* morphology.//

| 2025 (approx) | Lawrence Smith | "In 2021 some of Verne’s cuzcoensis aka peruvian torch were growing so tall they were stretching out and busting through the shade cloth so he had a series of “roof buster” sales trying to boost sales of the cuzcos. Probably maybe also includes some of his 2006 seed grown KK stuff. His cactus Kate bridgesii, Rimac, wild andes, PC, fastest and Juuls were more popular and so more frequently cut back and didn’t reach the roof." |
