===== Description =====
Trichocereus candicans "Gladiatus" is a distinct cultivar of T. candicans. While standard T. candicans specimens typically exhibit dense, yellowish spination with numerous spines per areole, the "Gladiatus" clone is noted by growers for having a shorter spination or growth habit compared to more common, heavily spined wild-type candicans.

===== History & Origin =====
This clone is closely associated with the historic Fields collection in Australia. Community members trace the provenance of "Gladiatus" directly to cuttings obtained from the Fields garden, and it is believed that a member of the Field family may have originally named the selection.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
No specific cultivation requirements were detailed in the community discussion. Like most Trichocereus candicans, it should be grown in a highly gritty, well-draining soil mix. It benefits from strong, direct sunlight to maintain its natural growth form and requires deep but infrequent watering during the active growing season, keeping the soil completely dry during winter.

===== Community Discussion & Citations =====
The discussion centers on identifying the origin of the "Gladiatus" name and growth form. Loo'k Lost-mang suggested the name originated from the Fields family, which was subsequently confirmed by Graeme Ellis, who verified that his matching specimen was sourced directly as a cutting from the Fields garden. Other community discussions highlight the difficulty of distinguishing T. candicans from other species, with growers like Reymond Go helping to identify suspected candicans specimens based on their characteristic growth habits.
