====== T. Peruvianus Rimac ======
{{clones:t:media:t_peruvianus_rimac:0a101060f62b6a9f.jpg?400}}

===== Description =====
Trichocereus peruvianus "Rimac" refers to a group of plants rather than a single, isolated clone. As a result, physical characteristics can vary. Generally, they exhibit classic T. peruvianus traits: glaucous blue-green to dark green epidermis, prominent ribs, and variable spination ranging from honey-colored to dark brown. Because multiple distinct specimens circulate under this name—including various seedgrown lines—rib counts, spine lengths, and overall morphology will differ depending on the specific collection source.

===== History & Origin =====
The name "Rimac" originates from the Rímac River valley in the Lima Province of Peru. Historically, the river was considered sacred, named after the Inca oracle/god "R'ima'k" (meaning "speaker" or "talker"). During the Spanish conquest, a misunderstanding of the local pronunciation of "Rimac" by the conquistadors led to the naming of the city "Lima".

In cultivation, "Rimac" represents multiple distinct clones and seedgrown lines rather than a single monotypic cultivar. Notable distribution history includes the vendor Verne (of sanpedrocactus1.com), who distributed specimens under this name. It is believed Verne may have originally sourced his material from Bob Ressler, who documented the plants on columnar-cacti.org.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
No specific cultivation challenges were noted in the community discussion. Standard Trichocereus cultivation practices apply:
* Use a highly gritty, well-draining soil mix (50-70% inorganic material like pumice or perlite).
* Water deeply only when the soil is completely dry, and withhold water during winter dormancy.
* Provide bright, filtered sunlight to full sun, adjusting gradually to prevent sunburn.

===== Community Discussion & Citations =====
The community consensus is that "Rimac" is a multi-clone designation, with different collectors holding visibly distinct plants under the same label.

===== Credibility Notes =====
Byron Fan was assigned a confidence score of 7 due to providing specific, traceable lineage details (linking the clone's distribution history to Verne and Bob Ressler's columnar-cacti.org database), which aligns with historical distribution patterns of Peruvian imports in the US collector community.
