====== TBM short ======

===== Description =====
TBM short (also known as *Trichocereus bridgesii* monstrose short form, or Clone B) is a monstrose growth form of *Trichocereus bridgesii* (syn. *Echinopsis lageniformis*). The clone features a smooth, glaucous blue-green epidermis with highly distorted or suppressed ribs (typically 0–4 irregular, poorly defined ribs per segment), growing in short, segmented terminal joints. Areoles are concentrated primarily at the base of new growths and segment junctions, bearing sparse (1–4 per active areole), honey-to-cinnamon brown spines ranging from 1 to 5 cm in length, while upper segment surfaces frequently remain spineless. Revert shoots regain standard *T. bridgesii* rib structure, typical spination, and standard flowering capabilities.

===== History & Origin =====
The specific origin, original collector, and introduction history of TBM short remain undocumented in official botanical records. It is widely distributed in home gardens and nursery collections across South America (including Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil). Community consensus holds that the clone likely originated in South America and was distributed globally during early cactus collection expeditions. Speculation also connects monstrose *T. bridgesii* lineages to historical European botanical collections, such as the Berlin Botanical Garden, and early commercial seed importations (e.g., Karel Knize collections), though direct provenance for TBM short remains unconfirmed.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
TBM short thrives under standard *Trichocereus bridgesii* cultivation regimes. It requires a highly inorganic, well-draining substrate to prevent root and stem rot. Provide full sun to bright partial light and ample ventilation, as short-form TBM can be susceptible to black environmental humidity spots in stagnant or overly humid conditions. Allow soil to dry out completely between thorough waterings during the active growing season, and maintain dry conditions during winter dormancy.
