===== Description =====
The "Variegated Mother Plant" (commonly abbreviated as VMP) is a highly sought-after variegated clone of Trichocereus. While specific botanical descriptions such as rib count, spine length, and exact epidermal coloration are not detailed in the primary discussion, the clone is characterized by its distinct chimeric variegation, featuring patches of yellow and green. It is frequently discussed in the context of Trichocereus pachanoi cultivars.

===== History & Origin =====
The acronym "VMP" stands for "Variegated Mother Plant," correcting a common community misconception that it stands for "Variegated Matucana Pachanoi." A prominent specimen of this clone is associated with grower Ross Gurau. The precise origin, breeder, and early history of the clone remain unconfirmed due to limited direct communication from the source.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
No specific cultivation notes were provided in the community discussion. As a variegated Trichocereus, standard care for variegated cacti applies:
* **Light:** Provide bright, filtered light or partial shade. The yellow, chlorophyll-deficient sectors of the epidermis are highly susceptible to sunburn under intense, direct sunlight.
* **Soil:** Use a highly gritty, well-draining soil mix (at least 50-70% inorganic pumice, perlite, or gravel) to prevent root rot.
* **Watering:** Water deeply only when the soil is completely dry. Reduce watering significantly during the winter dormancy period.

===== Community Discussion & Citations =====
The community discussion primarily focuses on clarifying the meaning of the VMP acronym and identifying the owner of the photographed specimen. While some members initially speculated that VMP stood for "Variegated Matucana Pachanoi," it was corrected to "Variegated Mother Plant." The community identified Ross Gurau as the owner of the plant in question, though attempts to contact him for further history have been unsuccessful.
