{{clones:w:media:wai_uhane:42b09fd213dc7e3f.jpg?400}}

===== Description =====
Specific botanical details such as exact rib count, spine length, spine color, and precise epidermis coloration are not documented in the available community discussion. However, the clone is noted for its highly prolific growth habit, characterized by its tendency to constantly produce offsets (pups).

===== History & Origin =====
The "Wai Uhane" clone originates from Hawaii. According to historical accounts passed down from the distributor, the genetic line was originally planted in the 1970s by a resident at a Hawaiian property. Although the original in-ground stand no longer exists, a local nursery owner preserved the lineage by cultivating pieces of it in pots.

In 2020, the vendor "Alohagrafts" began propagating the clone. It remained largely uncirculated in the wider community until approximately 2023, when specimens began shipping to collectors on the US mainland.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
While specific environmental preferences for "Wai Uhane" are not detailed, it is reported to be an exceptionally vigorous grower that is "constantly producing pups."

In the absence of specialized instructions, standard care for Hawaiian Trichocereus imports should be observed:
  * **Substrate:** Highly gritty, well-draining soil mix (at least 50% inorganic pumice or perlite) to prevent root rot.
  * **Watering:** Thorough watering during the active growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Keep dry during winter dormancy.
  * **Light:** Acclimate slowly to full sun or bright filtered light to prevent sunburn, especially for specimens transitioning from greenhouse or tropical island climates.

===== Community Discussion & Citations =====
//Analysis of the discussion.//

The discussion highlights the introduction of "Wai Uhane" to mainland collectors around 2023. Taron Thatshitup provided critical provenance details sourced directly from the propagator, Alohagrafts. Richard O'Bannon confirmed the physical arrival of the clone from Hawaii, while Christopher Mills noted that the clone was previously unknown to him, indicating its historical obscurity in the broader community.

^ Date ^ Speaker ^ Key Insight/Quote ^
| 2023 (approx) | Taron Thatshitup | "I met a lady who has pieces of it left at her nursery, the guy who lived there first planted it in the 70's but the stand doesn't exist anymore, she kept the genetic going in pots but they are so prolific, constantly producing pups and I've been propagating since 2020" |
| 2023 (approx) | Richard O'Bannon | "Picture for reference. Just came in from Hawaii." |

===== Credibility Notes =====
  * **Taron Thatshitup:** Rated highly for providing direct, detailed provenance and history sourced straight from the primary propagator (Alohagrafts).
  * **Richard O'Bannon:** Rated highly as a direct recipient of the physical specimen, confirming its geographical origin (Hawaii) and arrival timeframe.
  * **Christopher Mills:** Received a lower score as he only contributed the observation that he had not heard of the clone before, offering no additional data. He is excluded from the citation table.
