===== Description =====
Clover mites (Bryobia praetiosa) are tiny, highly mobile arachnids occasionally observed traversing the epidermis of Trichocereus cacti. They are characterized by their rapid, erratic movement across the ribs, areoles, and spines of the plants. They do not spin webs or cause physical damage to the cactus tissue. If crushed, they leave a distinct red stain.

===== History & Origin =====
Clover mites are a cosmopolitan pest species commonly found in lawns and herbaceous plants. Their occurrence on Trichocereus cacti is incidental rather than host-specific, as they do not feed on the cacti. The association in cultivation is documented through community observations of these mites migrating onto potted cacti from surrounding vegetation.

===== Cultivation Notes =====
No treatment or chemical intervention is required when clover mites are spotted on Trichocereus. They pose no risk to the health of the plants. General cultivation practices for Trichocereus (adequate airflow, proper watering, and monitoring for actual pests like spider mites or thrips) should be maintained. Fast-moving mites are often predatory, though clover mites themselves are herbivorous feeders on grasses and clovers; their presence on cacti is harmless.

===== Credibility Notes =====
Dushi Kaunt and Manny Juarez provided key diagnostic identification that distinguished these harmless mites from damaging spider mites. Their observations align with general entomological consensus that fast-moving mites on cacti are typically non-damaging or predatory, and they correctly identified the staining characteristic of clover mites. Silvan Inkola provided direct observational behavior of the mites' high mobility on the plants.
