Because "MK" represents a collection of diverse clones rather than a single cultivar, botanical characteristics such as rib count, spine length, and epidermis color vary significantly depending on the specific numbered clone. ===== History & Origin ===== The majority of the MK collection is reported to have originated from an older European collector who spent decades traveling to South America to collect wild cuttings. Matt (MK) reportedly acquired a single cutting of each clone from this collector shortly before the original collection was destroyed. The clone "Monika" is also associated with this source, having been obtained from the garden of a woman named Monika, though it does not carry an official MK number. ===== Cultivation Notes ===== No clone-specific cultivation requirements were detailed in the community discussion. Standard cultivation practices for Trichocereus species are recommended: utilize a highly porous, well-draining soil mix, provide deep watering only when the substrate has completely dried, and ensure ample direct sunlight to maintain typical glaucous coloration and robust spination. ===== Community Discussion & Citations ===== //Visible to trusted reviewers only.// ^ Date ^ Speaker ^ Key Insight/Quote ^ | 2026-08-11 | James Buchanan | "I believe the majority of the MK collection came from an older collector. The guy had been going to south America for decades collecting cuttings and bringing them back to Europe. Matt told me he got 1 cutting of each before the collection was destroyed." | ===== Contributor Confidence ===== ^ Speaker ^ Confidence ^ | James Buchanan | 8/10 | ===== Credibility Notes ===== James Buchanan is rated highly (8/10) due to his strong global reputation (7.7) and his detailed, uncontradicted account of the collection's provenance, which he obtained directly from Matt (MK).
