History & Origin

Ayacucho (Spanish pronunciation: [aʝaˈkutʃo], Quechua: Ayak'uchu) is the capital city of Ayacucho Region and of Huamanga Province in Peru. The word Ayachucho is derived from the words aya (“death” or “soul”) and k'uchu (“corner”), referencing a bloody battle that took place at the location in the Peruvian War of Independence.
